This may sound a little desperate, but does anyone know of any good movies or TV shows that have come out recently (last 5 years) that are worth watching? Keep in mind I've worked at a theatre for the last two, so I know all the big-budget titles.

EDIT: I've decided to add my own recommendations, as long as I'm asking for them.

TV:
Mad Men
Top Chef
In Treatment (season 1 only)
Bored to Death
Eastbound and Down
Extras

MOVIES:
Darkon
Superbad
Revolver
There Will Be Blood
Doubt
The Reader
The Foot-Fist Way
Network

TV:
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
The IT Crowd
Mighty Boosh (season 1 & 2)
Infomania
30 Rock
The Office (UK&xmas special & US)
Whitest Kids U Know
Dexter
Weeds
Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job
Avatar the Last Airbender (I'm on ep 17 and I must admit I'm hooked)

I'm not sure how I feel about Flash Forward yet, the storyline is sucking me in, but the main characters are repelling me. I want to like Community, but I don't think it's happening. Same thing, hating the main characters, but the supporting characters of Chevy Chase, Abed & Senor Chang are saving it for me. But, maybe they need to get comfortable as new shows, we will see.

movies.. I can never remember what I've seen:
Crank
JCVD (subbed)
Let The Right One In
REC (Spanish horror. great stuff)
Red SKulls & Cordoba Nights (cuz I'm in them =p)

ummm.I saw District 9 twice. =p
Don't see Sukiyaki Django. terrible.

I will be seeing Toy Story double feature in 3D though ^_^

oh, and when it comes out on DVD in Japan to get a good rip of it online... Evangelion 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance (maybe end of the year? came out in the theater june 27)

I mean, after.. what, 13ish years of the same material of the best anime ever.. new material comes out... and.... your mind can't handle it! Not in a bad way.. just.... crazy.

Oh, and if you haven't seen (the new) Evangelion 1: You are [not] alone... you should see that too. they have changed some of the story line. It's weird. Took some things out, altered the story line just slightly...

!! Holy shit I had no idea that existed. It's a re-make? Is the same guy behind it? Same animators? What's the difference between 1 and 2.0?

I actually don't remember if I even finished watching the original Neon Genesis. I got to the part where (I think?) the military had surrounded NERV and Shinji&co. were going to fight their way out, but I don't think I ever saw the finale movie.

Also, are you aware that they're planning on making an Eva live action movie? It's true.

I know there was plans for live action for years now, but the plan was ditched, or on indefinite hold at least.

yes first, finish and possibly rewatch the series. (and the other 2 original movies. End of Evangelion and Air I think their called. google it)

The movies are the same creator, writer, animation team, voices... everything the same. There will be 4 movies total. Not changing Eva, just expanding the Eva Universe and story lines. 1-3 will be a sort of retelling of the series, and 4 will be entirely brand new. There will be also a new character.

You Are [Not] Alone is essentially the pre-Asuka episodes retold in a movie. It has been reanimated frame by frame with CG. Some branding has been thrown in (different beers in the fridge), a few things tweaked in the story line (ex- when Shinji first sees the Eva, and the Eva moves by itself to shield Shinji from debris.. the part is omitted. That made me mad. The part where Asuka slaps Rei, now Rei catches her hand. Which I enjoy).

You Can [Not] Advance still continues from where 1 left off, but with some/a bunch of new stuff. I saw it in the theater, so no subtitles and Eva terms are a bit more high tech vocab than what I am used to. Thankfully, I know the series by heart and could follow along ok. When I left, it felt like my brain had just witness something traumatic and was shutting off. I could not process what I had just seen because of all the new goodness thrown at me.

Anyways, yes! Get on it!

Awesome. Some of these I haven't heard of.

I'm excited about The IT Crowd now because Wikipedia tells me that one of its writers also did Father Ted.

I did see Let the Right One In and loved it - I'm planning on reading the book it was based off of.

I will look into a few of these. Thanks.

IT Crowd is greeaaaatttt. I feel like season 2 dipped just a little, but omg season 3 was top of my comedy list when it was on IFC earlier this year.
British comedians are very incestuous when it comes to comedies, so I bet you will see a bunch of familiar faces from other shows (Matt Berry!!!!)
